A tribe training is a spiritual journey into movement and stillness
More than just a Level 1, 200-hour yoga teacher training this is an intensive immersion to explore and nurture oneself through practices that facilitate physical, emotional and mental growth and empowerment.
Highly experienced passionate teachers take you on a journey of yogic living, conscious eating, self-healing and self-love, guiding you towards making positive and beneficial changes that support a more holistic, healthy and yogic lifestyle.
The training retreat experience offers a unique ‘time out’ from your usual day-to-day activities and gives you the perfect opportunity to assess and reflect on the current relationship you have with yourself and with the world. It’s an invitation to dive into the essence of yoga and harmonise with all aspects of your Being.
Tribes special emphasis is on sensitivity and awareness. By raising our threshold of perception we can better explore and experience ourselves on a deeper level and connect to the divinity that flows within.
This course gives you the tools, understanding and inspiration to revitalise your life on all levels. The asana, pranayama, meditation, conscious eating, healing, purification techniques, chanting, philosophy and a fun yet studious atmosphere combine to give you a truly magical and unique experience. Ultimately the training offers a practical approach to yoga as a tool for daily living, aiding you to discover ways to integrate the teachings into all aspects of your life.
Throughout the training, trainees get lots of teaching practice, which allows them to build the skill and confidence to share what they love. By the end of the training, it’s amazing to see, that in this relatively short amount of time trainees able to share their understanding and practice of yoga with others in a yoga class scenario.
2. Why Tribe?
Over the past 7 years, Tribe has successfully trained over 1000 teachers. We have a long-standing reputation for quality and a training format and manual that has organically evolved over the years. Attending a Tribe Level 1, 200-hour yoga teacher training course means you have chosen both an integral and experienced yoga school.
We have many students come to us through a recommendation from others who have been on a Tribe YTTC. They come to know that the course is more than just yoga practice on the physical level. They hear about the amazing teachers who share their expertise, experience and passion for the yoga teachings and yogic living. It’s not unusual to hear graduates speaking about the tribe training as a once in a lifetime experience and magical journey of healing and growth.
This is a very personalised training whereby students and teachers are sharing space in a way that quickly creates a group dynamic of trust and loving energy. Tribe teachers establish a special space and atmosphere that supports participants to relax into the possibilities of growth and change and open the doors for new and wonderful experiences.
The Teachings at Tribe are presented in a non-dogmatic, modern and easily digestible form. Trainees find it easy to connect and resonate with our ‘down to earth’ approach. We nurture the individuality of each student through a fusion of yoga styles and disciplines. As well as pranayama, meditation and asana we introduce conscious eating, purification practices, healing, chanting and other spiritually empowering practices. All are fertile ground for long lasting transformation.
Every year the number of yoga schools increases and it’s a difficult task to select the right training from the many available. For those of you who have not had any personal introduction or recommendation to us, we hope you resonate with our approach and can trust in the longevity of our program and our years of experience
Unfortunately, we cannot assess your level of practice by what you write on your application. In our experience, a student who has been practicing for just 6 months could have an equal level of practice as a student who has studied for many years. Who you have been taught by, the quality of teachings you have received, your personal ability to digest and assimilate the practice, the consistency and continuity with which you practice are all important factors. This means the responsibility is on you to decide if you are ready for this training.
At the very least it is ideal to be familiar with the practice of sun salutations and have some experience of the primary series before attending this training.
When you sign up on a Tribe yoga teacher training we will send you some recommended pre-study and practice which includes a practice sheet of the modified ashtanga primary practice asanas and guidelines on how to teach sun salutations.
We also offer book recommendations. So…If you feel you have a passion for yoga practice and the physical and mental fitness to meet the challenges of this course. And if you are willing to give yourself, from start to finish, 100% to an intensive and rewarding learning experience, then we welcome you to join us.

5. Our Teachers
Something that makes our training very special is the unique personalities of the teachers you study with. Tribe teachers are all fascinating individuals who each bring something different to the training. All have been living yogic lifestyle’s for many years and express themselves from a deep aspiration to evolve.
Tribe teachers consider themselves to be quite progressive and all have studied and practiced different styles of Hatha Yoga including Ashtanga Vinyasa, Iyengar, Dynamic Yoga, Vinyasa Flow and Kundalini. The fusion of asana, pranayama and meditation styles & techniques that the teaching team offers creates a complete journey of both movement and stillness and our training.
Our teachers work towards maintaining a safe and sacred space so that all participants experience a supportive and nurturing environment in which they can express and explore their individual self without judgment or expectation.
Tribe 200hr level 1 yoga teacher training courses are immersion courses of 3 to 4 weeks. The course content, syllabus and expected level of attainment are the same on the all trainings regardless of the duration. On each course a high level of discipline, focus and commitment are required to successfully complete the syllabus.
Above 21 days training simply means you get more bonus hours of free time, self-study and practice.
Top of Page
All trainees who successfully complete the course receive an internationally recognised 200hr yoga teacher certificate, accredited by Yoga Alliance, the European Yoga Alliance and the Yoga Register giving them a teaching status to teach whatever style of yoga they love and practice.
With the Tribe teaching certificate you can register as an RYT (registered yoga teacher) with the above registries.
Trainees are assessed continuously throughout the duration of the training. Attitude and commitment towards practice and teaching, personal accomplishment & progress, and the ability to understand, express and share the teachings are all considerations in deciding whether a trainee has successfully completed the course.
Attendance: 95% attendance is required in order to receive a certificate. Since the trainings are scheduled as intensives there is very little room for non-attendance. In the case of continuous non-attendance, additional hours of study on a future training will be required and a certificate of either 100, 150 or 175 hours will be issued to reflect the hours completed. Additional hours of study are subject to a teaching fee.
If a student falls ill we encourage them to attend the class and observe. It is our experience that by being present many of the teachings can be still be digested and faster healing will occur. If sickness is severe and medical attention is required the non-attendance protocol will apply.
Please note: Teaching certificates are issued at the discretion of the Tribe teachers based on trainee performance and attainment. All students are required to reflect the aptitude and attitude of a yoga aspirant and also achieve 75% pass rates in exams and assessments. If a student fails in any part of the training re-takes are possible during training.
It is Tribes experience that all students who apply themselves to the best of their ability pass. In the rare case that a trainee needs additional time developing their understanding or skills a temporary certificate with a footnote ‘more training recommended before teaching to the public’ will be issued. Full certification will be issued on completion of additional assignments.
Level 1 certificates are presented to trainees at the closing ceremony on the last day of the training.
Lost or Damaged Certificates
If you require a replacement certificate due to damage or loss please contact us. Re-issue of a Certificate cost is 25 euros including p&p.
We can instead send you an electronic copy free of charge that you can print for yourself.
Register as a yoga teacher
With your Tribe Certificate you can register as a member of one of the many existing yoga organisations around the world. You can sign up with Yoga Alliance or other organisations such as The European Yoga Alliance or The Yoga Register etc.
Yoga organisations can be informative and a good place to network however it is not a necessity to register as a member of any organisation if you wish to teach or get insured.
Tribe recommends the Yoga Register, a yoga organisation created by ‘elder’ yoga teachers which have an integral way of assessing the schools that they register.Insurance.
Graduating from a registered yoga school and attaining a Yoga Teacher Certificate gives you notable credibility as a yoga teacher. With your training certificate you can apply to get liability insurance from many insurance companies that offer sports-related insurance policies.
If you are employed by a yoga or health organisation to teach then it’s likely you will be covered by the company insurance and will not need to apply for you own personal insurance although some people consider it a good idea if you live in the West to have your own insurance policy.
It is not necessary to sign up as a member of any yoga organisation to get insurance, a certificate is all you need.

9. Asana Styles & Practices
In asana the sequencing for study and practice is based on a Modified Ashtanga Primary Series and there will be Vinyasa Flow, Restorative and Hatha practices too.
To honour our varying abilities and limitations there are modifications to the traditional primary series asanas and introductions to a greater variety of asanas and sequencing taught under an umbrella of spiritual content and guidance.
We feel that awareness is the fertile ground for transformation and the real essence of asana practice lies in connecting to the subtleties of the body, breath and mind. Instructions focus on leading the students into a deeper awareness, to feel and recognise what’s going on inside their bodies, not just physically!
The Tribe approach transmitted to trainees is one of clear and effective instruction to increase awareness and sensitivity empowering students to deepen into a safe and beneficial practice.
Moving through an asana practice is not the inhale ‘do this’ and exhale ‘do that’ often experience in many Ashtanga classes…this does little to enhance a students self-development and individual progress. Asana classes taught on Tribe trainings incorporate practical instruction and spiritual guidance.
The method we use in the asana practices and studies is inspired by the ‘Dynamic yoga method ‘ as devised by Godfrey Devereux. The dynamic yoga method provides us with the simplistic approach, practice and understanding of some basic fundamentals which make asana practice safe and effective. Those fundamentals are:
- A soft and passive core.
- A stable foundation.
- Expression of the bandhas.
- Freedom of the breath.
Awareness and sensitivity act as the fertile ground upon which the fundamentals can be cultivated.
Our main focus is to guide students towards deepening into self-practice. We facilitate a space whereby each person is invited to nurture their own unique individuality and explore what works for them.
During the training students are supported to deepen their understanding and sensitivity, learning how to navigate safely and effectively through a self-practice, being able to skillfully respond to what they are feeling in each and every moment.
Whether you are new to self-practice or have been practising solo for a long time the training will help you to develop greater spontaneity and become more explorative in your practice.
During the training, you get plenty of time to develop teaching skills through teaching practice and coaching from the Tribe teachers.
Each week there are teaching assessments so you can appreciate and monitor your progress and growth. By the end of the training, you are able to create your own sequence and structure for a 75-minute yoga class which you can immediately teach to others when you venture back out into the world.
Pranayama can open the doors to the possibility of transcending physical and emotional blocks thereby accessing and connecting to the more subtle aspects of our being.
The pranayama program includes a broad range of techniques that present a gradual yet deep exploration of the power of the breath.
The meditation program is a combination of guided and silent practices that are an invitation to cultivate the awareness and stillness that is the hallmark of all spiritual practices.
We teach a diverse selection of techniques including breath awareness, mantra, music and dynamic meditation.
At Tribe the ancient teachings of the East are taught in a modern way suitable for the western mind so students can flourish in their practice and naturally gravitate to a more yogic lifestyle. We have no bias to any particular spiritual teachings and teach in a non-dogmatic way, which embraces many spiritual traditions and paths.
The main body of teachings for our philosophical talks and studies is the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. We focus on the eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga, which supports and illuminates our understanding of what yoga is and how to practice.
We like to think that the ‘real’ teachings come from all those who participate in the training discussing, sharing, exploring and debating yoga practice and yogic lifestyle in the animated philosophical sessions that take place each week.
Kriyas are the cleansing practices of Hatha yoga that support health and hygiene but more importantly cleanse the practitioner on a physical, energetic, emotional and mental level. The beginner’s kriya practices are optional. Students can decide for themselves after the theory if they wish to practice kriyas on a daily basis.
Fasting & Detoxing
We eat for energy and when we recognise that yoga is a practice which generates and directs energy in specific ways our food choices becomes very important. The food we eat has a powerful and profound effect on all levels of our Being. It’s not unusual for yoga students to plateau in their practice and often diet is a major factor stalling one’s spiritual evolution.
On the level 1 training, we introduce fasting and detoxing practices that are not compulsory. Students are always encouraged to listen to the theory and then decide for themselves if they want to participate.
Restorative classes are a great opportunity to recalibrate the body and establish a deep sense of release and relaxation on all levels of one’s Being. On the Tribe yoga teacher training the restorative classes create an opportunity to explore how to use props to support students deeper into stability, stillness and comfort so the body and mind are both replenished and refreshed.
The practice of Bhakti yoga, devotional chanting and singing, is a beloved practice of Tribe yoga teacher training course. The teachers have a passion for Bhakti yoga and are able to transmit their enthusiasm and own devotion and love for the divine to the trainees in such a profound way. Hearts open and those present often find themselves in amazing sublime states of consciousness.
Yoga Nidra can be a very powerful and profound practice to support practitioners on the path of personal growth and spiritual development. It’s a practice that if done on a regular basis can help us to break free of the conditioned mind and allow us to connect to the most subtle realms of our Being in an awake state. Yoga Nidra theory and practice is part of the level 1 program.
10. Student Support and Post Training Ed
We recognise that an intensive month of yoga training can be both physically and mentally demanding so we want to create is a relaxed and stress-free learning experience. Tribe Teacher Training courses include the following program of student support:
- Study Groups: On large trainings of 20 students or more the study groups are a chance for trainees to share experiences and support one anothers progress. Teachers and teaching assistants lead the groups. Each group has a max of 7 students and a designated teacher who acts as a mentor for the trainees during the training.
- Personal Interviews: During the training trainees are given an opportunity to have a personal interview with one of the main teachers to discuss their self-practice and other personal matters.
- Complimentary massage: We gift each student a complimentary massage to relax, rejuvenate and soothe away any aches and pains.
(Due to therapist availability the complimentary treatment may not be available on European YTT’s unless mentioned in the YTT info)
Level 1 Teaching Assistant positions
We invite level 1 YTT graduates to return to Tribe as teaching assistants on other Tribe Level 1 trainings. Teaching assistants get the opportunity to further develop their own practice, adjustment & teaching skills, whilst taking on a leadership role guiding and assisting trainees throughout the YTT journey.
Teaching Assistant Testimonial Jan 2013 training
Rejoining Tribe as an assistant was to enter a time and space that was so rich and so conducive to transformation. It is by infusing ourselves within the teachings and living within a conscious community, that we begin to live as true yogis and yoginis. The boundary between practice and life shrinks and moves toward a state of continuous uninterrupted practice at all moments.
Assistant is a unique space between the role of teacher/giver and student/ receiver. A place where both can be observed. I began to feel those roles give way to a circular experience that we are all giving into and harvesting from. The sense of separateness began to dissolve and was overtaken by the energy and the potency of the teachings in practice.
I had the opportunity to work with amazingly inspiring teachers and see them in action from a new perspective. Since then a new vision of my professional identity has begun to present itself. Watching the vibrancy emerge from within the students I really saw what a gift it can be to teach someone yoga and what a noble and selfless job it is. I am grateful and proud to have trained with Tribe and appreciate the continued support that this role has given me……– Liza (USA)

13. Student Testimonial
“This course was all that I hoped that it would be, and all that it promised to be. I wanted a relaxed and in-depth introduction to the many aspects of the Eight Limbs of Yoga, obviously, a challenge to squeeze into a one-month intro course, however, I really feel that this was achieved.
All aspects of the course revealed the dedication, devotion and care of the teachers to our learning and further progress and understanding of this bottomless sea of knowledge. It was like being safely descended into a scuba dive, slowly exploring the depths of Philosophy, Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Teaching, Chanting, Adjusting, and Yoga.
My daily practice has continued and developed naturally as a result of this immersion. Even though I have been teaching Yoga Asana in Bali for five years now I feel so much more confident and grounded in my personal Yoga lifestyle and far more equipped to share what I feel and know of yoga.
Many thanks to Scarlett, Sequoia, Raquel, Susie and Hamid. Namaste.
